Met Office says snow COULD fall in Cornwall

Met Office says snow COULD fall in Cornwall

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 2:09pm 25th February 2020. (Updated at 2:47pm 25th February 2020)

Parts of Cornwall could wake up to a light dusting of snow as temperatures plummet.

OK, OK, we know that is unlikely - but is not out of the question!

The white stuff has already been spotted on Dartmoor...

And the Met Office says a few flurries may fall on Bodmin Moor on Tuesday afternoon and evening as well.

It has issued an ice warning that will last across the drive to work on Wednesday, as wintry showers hit the south-west.

Kernow Weather Team has tweeted several warnings, to say some roads are already turning to ice rinks.

"Conditions across the Duchy have deteriated.

"We have some roads turning treaterous and icy due to heavy downpours. Please drive carefully".

The gritters are going out across the Duchy on Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday evening.

What does the Met Office say?

A yellow weather warning for ice will be in force from midnight until 10am on Wednesday.

The Met Office says whilst that will be the biggest risk, hail, sleet and even snow could cause problems.

"The showers will be of rain, hail, sleet and a bit of snow perhaps.

"But it means that surfaces will be wet and we are expecting temperatures to fall away tonight.

"Not particularly low on the thermometer - probably just close to freezing in a few spots.

"But on the road surfaces themselves, we're expecting temperatures them to fall below freezing at times.

"Higher parts of Bodmin Moor, Dartmoor and Exmoor, there's certainly the risk of a slight covering of snow from time to time as the air turns progressively colder through this afternoon, this evening and tonight.

"By the time we're up and about tomorrow morning, don't be surprised to see a dusting of snow".
