Man's body pulled from the sea in Penzance

Police have confirmed a man has been found dead in the sea in Penzance.

Emergency services were called to reports of a body in the water at Abbey Basin.

Paramedics, Coastguard rescuers and the RNLI were also scrambled on Wednesday morning.

The man was a 49-year-old from the local area and his family have been informed.

Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed the death is being treated as unexplained and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

"Police were called at around 7.15am this morning with reports of a body in the water, at the harbour by Abbey Slipway, Abbey Street, Penzance.

"Police, ambulance, RNLI and coastguard crews attended and assisted with the recovery of the body of a 49-year-old man from Penzance.

"His next of kin have been informed.

"Police are currently treating his death as unexplained.

"A file is being prepared for the coroner".
