20,000 people to sing to celebrate St Piran's Day

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 5:44pm 5th March 2020.

Cornwall is celebrating St Piran's Day with a massive sing along.

The Trewlawny Shout sees groups belt out the Cornish anthem all at the same time.

It is aiming to get 20,000 voices singing simultaneously across the pubs in Cornwall and beyond for 2020.

The Countrymen, a Cornish folk rock harmony group from Launceston, are streaming their rendition.

They will be live via Facebook from The Brendan Arms in Bude at 9pm on Thursday 5th March.

"As far as I'm concerned I'm Cornish born and bred and very proud of it, for whatever reason everyone is probably quite proud of where they live but Cornwall is a little bit special. There is great pride within the county.

"We have got people who are tuning in from New Zealand, Australia, Canada and others that can't get to a pub that will be watching us live at 9 o'clock."

Steve Gilbert, The Countrymen

About the Trelawny Shout:

The first Trelawny Shout was held in 2015.

Started by volunteers at the Cornwall Community Foundation, the event grew and grew to become one of the favourite ways of celebrating Cornish life on March 5th for those lucky enough to live here.

One song, one night, but thousands of voices raising the roofs of pubs and venues up and down the land for Cornish charities.

Community cohesion, cultural celebration and a healthy dollop of fun. Feel an important part of Cornwall by belting out the best song in the world hand in hand with friends, family, neighbours and strangers  - what’s not to like?
