'Serious crash' closes part of A38 in Cornwall

A man has been taken to hospital after what was being described as a serious crash on the A38 in Cornwall.

Police were called to reports of a two-car collision near Liskeard on Friday morning.

A stretch of the road near the Island Shop junction was closed, but has since reopened.

Devon and Cornwall Police say one casualty has had to be cut free and has been taken to hospital.

Callers have told Pirate FM the air ambulance was scrambled, however that has not been confirmed.

Devon and Cornwall Police say a man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

"Police were contacted around 9.20am to the A38 at Liskeard to reports of a collision between two cars.

"Emergency services are at the scene.

"One occupant of a vehicle had to be extracted from their car and will be taken to hospital, their injuries are unknown.

"A closure has been put in place by the Premier Inn.

"The incident is ongoing".

Devon and Cornwall Police added: "A man was taken to hospital via land ambulance with a non-life-threatening injury and is stable. 

"Recovery ongoing and Highways on the scene assisting with clear-up".

Traffic and Travel Service, Inrix, says the carriageway but delays are still being reported in the area.

"Queueing traffic due to earlier accident. Two cars involved on A38 eastbound between A390 (Island Shop Junction, Liskeard) and A374 (Trerulefoot roundabout, Trerulefoot).

"All lanes have been re-opened.

"The road re-opened at around 13:50.

"Affecting traffic travelling between Liskeard and Saltash".
