Third coronavirus case confirmed in Cornwall

A third case of coronavirus in Cornwall has been confirmed by the government.

The number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in the UK now stands at 273, three of which are in the Duchy.

It is not yet known whether the third case here is connected to the previous two, which involve two people who have recently been to northern Italy.

No details have yet been revealed about where exactly in Cornwall the confirmed cases are.

But Public Health England has contacted anybody who may have come into contact with the individuals.

Officials are reminding people that the risk to the public remains low.

"I can confirm that a third case of COVID-19 has been recorded in Cornwall.

“I’d like once again to reassure people again that the risk to the general public remains low and Cornwall Council is working with health colleagues to do everything we can to stop the virus spreading and ensure the people of Cornwall are protected.

“If you have not been contacted by Public Health England as a close contact of the confirmed cases you do not need to take any action at this time.”

Steve Brown, Cornwall Council’s Deputy Director of Public Health
