A new primary school is being planned to open in Newquay next year.

Newquay Primary Academy is set to be built next to Newquay Tretherras Secondary School and would be run by Cornwall Education Learning Trust.

A public exhibition is set to be held later this week to give local people the chance to see the plans for the school and ask questions.

The event will be held at The Quay Building at Newquay Tretherras from 4pm to 7pm on Thursday March 12.

The school is due to be completed by spring 2021.

Talks have been taking place about opening Newquay Primary Academy since 2016 when the plans were first put forward.

A request for pre-planning advice was submitted to Cornwall Council late last year by Caledonian, the firm appointed to build the new school.

It states that the new school would have a two-storey building along with an outdoor physical education pitch, netball and tennis courts.

It would be built on the site of a former education block at Newquay Tretherras.

The new school would be a two-form entry with capacity for up to 420 children.

For anyone unable to attend the exhibition there will be an online survey available until March 26
