Dishwasher sparks house fire near Redruth

People are being urged to check recall lists after a dishwasher caught fire near Redruth.

The appliance sparked a house blaze in Illogan on Tuesday night.

Firefighters from Tolvaddon got the shout and managed to stop it spreading to the rest of the house.

Luckily nobody was injured when the flames broke out in the kitchen.

"At 21:17 a call was received regarding a residential fire in Redruth.

"Two appliances from Tolvaddon were mobilised to the incident, along with a whole time officer.

"Firefighters discovered one domestic property, consisting of two floors, approx. 7 metres by 7 metres, with the fire located in the kitchen. 

"Two breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet was used to extinguish the fire."

Now people are being reminded to register their electrical appliances in case they are recalled.

"Two crews from Tolvaddon have just returned from a dishwasher fire in Illogan tonight.

"Fortunately the fire was detected early by the owner, and was duly extinguished by red watch assisted by our on-call firefighters before it spread to the rest of the house.

"To help prevent electrical appliance fires please register them in case they are recalled."
