Another charge after death of young man in Liskeard

A man has been charged with assisting an offender after the death of a young man in Liskeard.

Police say 20-year-old Damien Bendelow suffered multiple stab wounds back in January.

Officers were called to reports of a serious assault in the Cattle Market car park in the town.

The casualty was rushed to Derriford in the early hours of that morning but could not be saved.

A local man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of murder and was later charged.

Carl Smythe, of Varley Lane in the town, appeared at Truro Crown Court on Thursday 20th February.

The 45-year-old pleaded not guilty to one count of murder and was remanded in custody.

A trial is now due to start on the 27th July, with a pre-trial review due to take place on the 5th June.

Now police have confirmed that a 54-year-old man from Looe was charged on Wednesday 11th March, with assisting an offender.

He is due to appear before Bodmin Magistrates on Thursday morning.

"Mark Jackson, aged 54 and from Looe, was charged on Wednesday 11th March with assisting an offender and will appear at Bodmin Magistrates' Court this morning."

Devon and Cornwall Police 

Following his appearence at Bodmin Magistrates', Mark Jackson is on conditional bail and will appear at Truro Crown Court on 17th April.
