Cornwall Airport Newquay has confirmed that it remains open for business amid the developing coronavirus outbreak.

Bosses say they are following government advice to protect both passengers and staff.

Extra measures are now in place including extra cleaning and sanitising regimes.

It is currently 'operational for those passengers who need to travel'.

"In light of the developing COVID-19 situation, Cornwall Airport Newquay are closely following government advice to protect both passengers and staff.

"We remain open and operational for those passengers who need to travel and will continue to follow advice issued by the Department for Transport and our airline partners.

"Extra measures are now in place to keep staff and passengers safe and healthy, including extra cleaning and sanitising regimes.

"For information on your flight please contact your airline, or check our online live feed on the day of your flight.

"We will also endeavour to update passengers on social media as much as possible, including the progress we are making on rebuilding our route network following the collapse of Flybe, and any further operational impact to our services at a result of the evolving COVID-19 situation."

It follows the collapse of Exeter-based airline Flybe, which operated 65% of Newquay airport's flights.

Bosses at the airport say they are now working to rebuild their network.

But across the country there are fears for the future of airlines amid the Covid-19 spread and travel advice.
