Newquay airport calls for more government support

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 8:18am 19th March 2020.

Cornwall Airport Newquay is calling on the government to help support the aviation industry in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is joining other airports and airlines in demanding more to be done in what it calls an 'unprecedented time' as the spread of coronavirus worsens across the UK.

Newquay airport has confirmed that it is open and operational despite current travel restrictions and advice.

Bosses say they are following government advice to protect both passengers and staff.

They added that the airport's services are vital for both businesses and residents across the Duchy.

"In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, Cornwall Airport Newquay is joining other UK airports and airlines in calling for the government to step in and support this much needed industry during what is an unprecedented time.

"Our services are vital for businesses and residents in Cornwall who rely on the connectivity both for travelling in and out of the country.

"In order for us to be able to resume our operation once this health crisis is over, the government needs to provide support now."
