A fifth person has died in Cornwall in relation to coronavirus.

Officials have confirmed that the patient was in their 60s and had underlying health conditions.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust says that they had tested positive for Covid-19 and had been cared for at Treliske.

Their family has been told about the cause of death.

It comes after the first four coronavirus-related deaths in the Duchy were confirmed on Saturday.

“Sadly, we can confirm that a patient who had been cared for at Royal Cornwall Hospital, and had tested positive for COVID-19, has died.

"The patient was in their 60’s and had underlying health conditions.

"The family has been informed about the cause of death and are following national guidance.

Our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.

"Out of respect for their privacy we will not be commenting further.”
