Children can learn farming from their front room

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 7:15am 25th March 2020.

Children across Cornwall will be able to learn all about farming from the comfort of their homes thanks to a new initiative.

The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association (RCAA) has launched it's "Front Room Farming' campaign", which is made up of a series of activities that young people can do at home in light of Covid-19 outbreak.

They will also touch on topics such as livestock and dairy farming and take part in activities that cover subjects such as English, Science and Art.

It comes as many children are now being schooled from home due to measures implemented by the Government in recent days, amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The RCAA has provided activity sheets on their website that children can download.

"Our activity sheets give parents some different and unique ideas for home lessons, and focuses on how our farms work, where our food comes from, and our environment – topics that are vitally important for our children to learn about.

"Our aim is for our activities to provide a practical and stimulating method of learning, beyond the norms of the classroom. Even parents might learn something new along the way.

"The idea is to create a virtual classroom of children learning about some of the most important industries in our region, therefore we would love for those who take part to show us their work by tagging us in their social media posts and using the hashtag #FrontRoomFarming."

Its resources are free to use and available on the RCAA website. The activity sheets work alongside its educational videos which are also available online.
