Fears of 'risk to life' after house fire near Newquay

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 8:11am 25th March 2020.

Firefighters rush to the rescue amid fears of a 'risk to life' after a house fire broke out near Newquay.

A 999 call was made after somebody fell over whilst cooking in their kitchen in Quintrell Downs.

They were unable to get up and the cooker was potentially on fire.

Paramedics and police were also called to the scene on Tuesday evening and the occupant was given oxygen therapy.

Crews then made the scene safe.

"At 17:41 Critical Control received a 999 call reporting a person had fallen whilst cooking, was unable to get up, and the cooker was potentially on fire.

"Because of the risk to life three appliances were mobilised - two from Newquay Community Fire Station and one from St Columb Community Fire Station - as well as an Incident Commander. Police and ambulance were also requested.

"On arrival crews forced entry into the property where there was a strong smell of burning from a grill pan.

"The occupant was removed to a place of safety and crews administered oxygen therapy until the arrival of paramedics.

"Once the scene was made safe crews handed over to the police and ambulance crews."
