From cyder to hand sanitiser - Healeys helps with the coronavirus effort

A cyder farm near Truro has turned its hand to distilling a unique product to help in the effort against coronavirus in Cornwall.

Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm has swapped the distilling of gin for hand sanitiser after it received a direct request from The Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske.

The company is looking to provide 100 litres of alcohol-based sanitiser every week, free of charge using the NHS and the World Health Organisation's recipe.

And it has already dropped off its first batch to Treliske, so it's all systems go.

Now they are hoping to produce enough for everyone else who would like some too, and are hoping to have bottles for sale by the end of the week.

It has had to temporarily close the farm to visitors after the Government implemented a UK lockdown.

Joe Healey, who owns the Cyder Farm made a video on Facebook to show us how he is making it. You can see how he does it below.

The hand sanitiser well also be available to purchase via its sales team for delivery and from its online shop here.
