Elderly man dies in hospital after St Austell crash

Police have launched a fresh appeal after a crash in St Austell that claimed an elderly man's life.

A car and a van collided on a Tuesday afternoon two weeks ago on Trevanion Road.

Occupants from both vehicles were rushed to Treliske hospital.

Sadly an 86-year-old man from Exeter, who was the front-seat passenger in the car, died three days later.

Officers are still trying to work out how the crash happened and anyone with dashcam footage is being asked to come forward.

"Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage of a two-vehicle collision on Trevanion Road, St Austell, on Tuesday 10th March.

"It involved a silver Volvo XC40 and a grey Renault Traffic Van and happened at around 3.25pm.

"As a result of the collision, occupants from both vehicles were taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske.

"Sadly, the front-seat passenger of the Volvo – an 86-year-old man from Exeter - died in hospital on Friday 13th March.

"Local officers, as well as those from the Roads Policing Team attended the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision."
