Coastguards carry out patrols on Cornish beaches amid UK lockdown

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 11:11am 30th March 2020.

Coastguard teams across Cornwall have started their own patrols to help combat those not abiding the Government's guidance around social distancing.

Over the weekend (28th and 29th March), crews began their patrols along Cornish coastlines and beaches in order to help Devon and Cornwall Police by reporting any gatherings.

It comes as police were given extra powers last week to issue fines those making non-essential journey's and dispersing of any gatherings that are not adhering to the Government's guidance with regards to social distancing. This was put in place following the coronavirus outbreak.

Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team, who cover Mullion and the Lizard were just one of the teams conducting patrols.

"All quiet on all of our beaches and carparks on our lunchtime patrol, it seems people are heeding the message to stay safe, stay at home!"

Spokesperson for Mullion Coastguard Rescue Team
