Six more people die of coronavirus in Cornwall

Six more people in Cornwall have died from coronavirus according to the latest figures from NHS England.

It brings the total number of deaths in the Duchy to 16. 

They were being cared for at the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske when they died. 

On Tuesday, it was reported that three people had died of the disease. 

“We are sad to confirm that six people who had been cared for at Royal Cornwall Hospital and had tested positive for COVID-19, have died over the last five days.

“They were aged between 78 and 97 years.

“This is a deeply upsetting and difficult time for the families concerned and out of respect for their privacy, we will not be commenting further.

“Our staff have been working hard to prepare for the impact of COVID-19 here in Cornwall and are pulling together to do their very best for our patients – our families, our friends, our colleagues.

Meanwhile, across the rest of England, a further 486 people, who tested positive for the COVID-19 have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 2,137.

Patients were aged between 13 and 99 years old.  

20 of the 486 patients had no known underlying health condition. 

Their families have been informed.
