Driver caught on 170 mile round trip to Cornwall

A driver has been caught on a 170 mile round trip to Cornwall... to "have a break from the wife and kids".

Police pulled them over on the A30 near Launceston on Easter Sunday during the coronavirus lockdown.

Officers were out patrolling the Duchy's road across the bank holiday weekend, urging people not to come here for holidays.

The government is urging us to only leave our homes for four reasons, for essential grocery shopping, to go to work if we cannot work from home, to get medication or to help someone who is vulnerable.

"Taking your BMW out for a spin on a 170 mile round trip to have a break from the wife and three kids is also not an essential journey!

"The roads are much quieter but there are still people who don't get it. Driver reported on the A30 near Launceston."

Alliance Roads Policing

A string of other vehicles heading to Cornwall and Devon were also turned around over the weekend after being stopped by police.

It follows a clear message from officers and tourism bosses that a holiday is not essential travel.

Another driver was reported near Bodmin, who had driven across the county to collect a second hand boat.

It comes after police warned that those who are found holidaying in the Duchy will be in breach of the restrictions and can expect a fine to be issued.
