The people donating food and money to help Cornwall's hospitals

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 4:00pm 19th April 2020.

The charity that supports staff working in Cornwall's hospitals has sent out a special message of thanks to the community.

For the past three weeks, people across the nation have taken to their gardens, windows and balconies to applaud NHS staff treating those suffering with coronavirus - and many have been turning that good will into donations for hospital staff in Cornwall.

The Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity says the donations of food and collections has been "phenomenal" and they are overwhelmed by the "generosity and kindness" of people.

It has now created its own Covid-10 Fund for those in the community who still wish to show donate and show their support.

"Across the hospitals the Trust are supporting colleagues with improved catering and rest facilities, access to free onsite parking and other wellbeing provisions.

"We’ll continue to increase our health and wellbeing offering and the RCHT Charity Covid19 Fund will go a long way in providing staff with much needed support".

Rehan Afzal, Head of Organisational Development at Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust

To protect patients, staff and the community, and help reduce the spread of infection, the Trust has restricted visiting and access across their hospitals.

Therefore the trust and charity are now asking anyone wishing to support hospital staff to kindly contribute, where possible, to the 'Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity Covid-19 Fund' which will be used for staff wellbeing in the coming weeks and months.

“The community of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly have been phenomenal and overwhelmed us with their generosity, kindness and practical offers of help and support.

We've had donations of food, collections from local communities and individuals and this has had a direct impact upon the staff at our three hospitals across Cornwall - West Cornwall Hospital, St Michael's Hospital and Royal Cornwall Hospital,”

Karen Murrish, Fundraising Manager for Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity

How can I donate?

Well wishers are being asked to not visit the hospitals in person due to public health guidance but to donate online instead.

Anyone wishing to support Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity is asked to donate or set up their own fundraising page through the dedicated Covid-19 campaign page www.virginmoneygiving.com/fund/RCHTCovid19.
