Over 800 people in Cornwall ask for help amid Covid-19 crisis

Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 8:01am 19th April 2020.

It has been revealed that 881 people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly have called Citizens Advice for help during the coronavirus crisis.

That was how many requests for help were made across the Duchy between the 16th March and 14th April alone.

The top issues that people came to Citizens Advice Cornwall were:

  • Universal Credit – 29%
  • Other benefits and tax credits – 19%
  • Debt – 16%
  • Employment – 11%
  • Financial services and capability – 6%
  • Other issues – 19%

People in Cornwall who need help can still turn to Citizens Advice for guidance and information during the coronavirus restrictions, says the charity’s Chief Executive, Gill Pipkin:

"We’ve spoken to members of the public about a wide range of issues....Cornwall already suffers from low pay and a high level of job insecurity because of heavy reliance on seasonal tourism work so the current restrictions are causing great anxiety for many people, especially the self-employed, business owners and vulnerable members of our community.”

Gill Pipkin, CEO Citizens Advice Cornwall

How to contact Citizens Advice:
