A man has been charged after an 'incident' in Newquay town centre.

Police were called to reports of a man screaming and shouting in the road on Thursday afternoon.

Officers say a member of the public suffered minor injuries in the Towan Beach area.

A taser was deployed and the suspect was detained and taken into custody.

Now police have confirmed that a 50-year-old local man, of no fixed abode, has been charged with assault by beating, possession of an offensive weapon and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

He is due to appear at Bodmin Magistrates Court on 4th June.
