A rescue operation has been carried out after a person fell from a balcony in St Austell.

Police, paramedics and firefighters were all called to the scene on Saturday night.

Officers say the casualty had landed on another high ledge and was in "immediate danger" of falling again.

Fire crews managed to get the person safely down and they were left in the care of the ambulance service.

Rescuers say the great multi-agency response prevented the incident from becoming any more serious.

"Emergency services attended Trinity Street, St Austell last night after reports were received that a member of public had fallen from a balcony.

"The person in question had tumbled from the balcony landing on another high ledge and was in immediate danger of falling again.

"Fire did an excellent job of removing them quickly and handing them over to be taken care of by ambulance crew.

"A great multi agency response to ensure the individuals safety and preventing the incident becoming any more serious than it already was."
