A cyclist has died after an early morning crash in St Ives.

Police say the man lost control of his bike for "reasons unknown" and no other vehicles were involved.

Officers and paramedics were both called to the scene at The Terrace just after 7.20am on Sunday.

Sadly the male cyclist could not be saved.

A scene investigation was carried out and anyone who saw what happened, or who has dashcam footage, is asked to contact police.

"At around 7.22am on Sunday 3rd May, police received a report from the ambulance service of a pedal cycle collision on the A3074, The Terrace, St Ives, Cornwall.

"Initial investigations indicate that a pedal cycle, for reasons unknown, has lost control. No other vehicles are believed to be involved.

"A number of South Western Ambulance Service Trust resources attended the scene along with local police officers.

"Specialist officers from the roads policing team attended the scene, closed the road and launched a full forensic examination.

"A local male sadly died at the scene.

"Police are witnesses with any information, or anyone with dashcam footage, come forward."
