Hedgehog that was kicked by youths in Redruth is on the mend

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 6:59am 20th May 2020.

Poppy the hedgehog, who was injured after being kicked by a group of youths in Redruth, has had an operation and is now on the mend.

The little creature was heard crying out in pain when she was attacked late at night last week.

Luckily a passer-by came to the rescue and Poppy was taken to Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue at Cubert, near Newquay.

She has now had an operation to pin and stabilise the fracture in her hind leg.

The recovery will take around four to six weeks and Poppy will remain on painkillers.

Poppy is already tucking into her food and has been starting to use her injured leg already!

Anyone wanting to donate to the charity or towards Poppy's operation costs can do so here.

The x-ray on Poppy's hind leg

"Yesterday Poppy visited Penmellyn Vets St Columb to see Phil Witte from A30Referrals for assessment of her injured hind leg.

"X-rays showed a fracture which was successfully operated on to insert pins and stabilise the fracture.

"She came through the operation very well and this morning was tucking into food and already beginning to use the leg.

"She has a 4-6 week recovery ahead after which we will reassess and hopefully be looking towards release.

"She will be on pain relief and anti-inflammatories alongside her parasite treatments for the next couple of weeks.

"We cannot thank the staff at Penmellyn enough for their support with all our hedgehogs.

"If you would like to contribute towards our veterinary bills and care of our hedgehogs please use the donate button on our page."
