Police have released an appeal after a 17-year-old girl died in a tragic incident off the north coast of Cornwall.

The teenager got trapped under an inflatable boat on bank holiday Monday.

The air ambulance, coastguard crews, a lifeboat and police officers were all called to the scene just before 2.30pm.

She was rushed to Treliske hospital, along with three other casualties, but tragically she could not be saved.

Now officers are urging anyone who saw what happened, or who has video footage, to come forward.

"Officers were first contacted at around 2.25pm on Monday 25th May following reports of an upturned RHIB [rigid-hulled inflatable boat] in the water near Porthilly Rock, near Wadebridge.

"The Air Ambulance and Coastguard were in attendance at the scene assisting with three casualties. All three people were taken to the lifeboat house before heading to Treliske Hospital.

"Sadly, a 17-year-old local girl was later pronounced deceased. Her next of kin have been informed."

Devon and Cornwall Police

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area and witnessed the incident or captured the incident on camera to contact police on 101 quoting log 525 25/5/20.
