A boat fire has broken out at Newlyn Harbour during the early hours of the morning.

The wheelhouse of a moored boat was found to be well alight and there were flares on board.

Firefighters managed to remove them from the vessel and the blaze out out using a hose reel jet.

"Critical Control received a 999 call at 02:00 reporting a fire in the wheelhouse of a boat moored in Newlyn Harbour. Two appliances were mobilised from Penzance, along with a Wholetime Station Manager. The Officer arrived on scene first and after a rapid assessment sent an assistance message stating "Make Pumps 3".

"An additional appliance was mobilised from St Just to assist. The wheelhouse was well alight on the boat measuring approximately 20 metres in length. Crews wearing breathing apparatus (BA) used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. Flares stored on the boat were identified as the most significant risk ad were safely removed from the vessel.

"The fire was extinguished by 02:41. Crews then used a Positive Pressure Ventilation (PPV) fan to clear smoke.

"An appliance from St Ives was mobilised to standby at Penzance for Fire Cover, however once the appliance from St Just was made available from the incident they stayed in Penzance on standby and the crew from St Ives were sent back."
