Cornish boarding kennels looks after key workers' pets during pandemic

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 12:00pm 13th June 2020.

Meet the local boarding kennels in south east Cornwall which has been looking after the pets of key workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

Whilst key workers have been busy keeping the nation’s health, food and transport going, the team at Grove Nurseries near Saltash have been caring for their pets.

Based in Landulph, they provide care covering from a few hours to overnight for days at a time, and can help out those who are working shifts.

But as lockdown measures are easing they are keen to offer the services to more people, with strict hygiene procedures in place.

“As a farming family, when the pandemic started, we realised that for many, it was business as usual – they needed to be able to work. We decided to remain open to look after the pets of key workers. Many of our regulars work in health, education, food, logistics, etc and it was clear that if they couldn’t board their pet, they couldn’t work.

“As a result, we’ve been working hard alongside our customers to make sure we can take care of their dogs and cats, allowing them to go on shift, or go to work for everyone’s benefit.

“Whilst lockdown is being gently relaxed, it’s clear that many won’t be going on holiday any time soon, and working from home for some will be the new normal. But for those who do have to go out to their place of work, it’s good to know that there’s a place that will care for your furry friend.

“And as you would expect, we take every precaution and have been diligent in ensuring a rigorous hygiene routine. We have trained everyone in managing minimal customer contact, but please be reassured, we will look after your pet like it’s our own!”
