Nine more Cornish beaches to get lifeguard cover

The RNLI will put lifeguard cover in place along a further nine beaches in Cornwall this weekend.

Cornwall Council's confirmed the additional stretches of sand that will be served by the charity from Saturday June 20th.

Lifeguard cover returned to another six beaches last weekend on top of seven others that already had an RNLI presence.

Despite confirmation of the further expansion this weekend authorities are urging people to take adequate safety precautions whilst also maintaining social distancing.

As of this Saturday (20th June), lifeguard patrols will start at the following beaches in Cornwall:

Tregonhawke, Sharrow, Portreath, Chapel Porth, Holywell Bay, Treyarnon, Harlyn, Trebarwith, and Crooklets.

In Cornwall, there are currently lifeguards on Constantine, Fistral, Gwithian, Hayle Towans, Mawgan Porth, Perranporth, Poldhu, Porthmeor, Porthtowan, Polzeath, Praa Sands, Sennen, Summerleaze, Watergate Bay, and Widemouth

"This further expansion of lifeguard cover is a great comfort to beach users, and we must all thank the RNLI for making these arrangements in such unusual conditions.

"But lifeguards and lifeboat crews would be the first to warn that we still have to respect the sea and respect the virus.

"Neither is to be disregarded in our keenness to enjoy the seaside, and both are a very real and present danger.

"Please check sea, tide and weather conditions before setting off and take note of lifeguard flags and instructions.

"Keep that social distance, even when parking your car, and on beaches that have no lifeguards be wary of going into the water.

"It puts not only you and your family at risk, but anyone who attempts a rescue if you get into difficulty."
