Man in critical condition after assault in East Looe

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after an assault in East Looe.

The victims in his 40s suffered a significant head injury when it happened on Fore Street just before 11pm on Saturday night.

He remains in a critical but stable condition at Derriford Hospital and his family has been made aware.

Anyone who saw what happened, or who has CCTV footage, is asked to contact police.

Officers say the incident is not linked to a separate serious assault which took place in West Looe in the early hours of 11th July.

“This is believed to have been a spontaneous and isolated incident between persons known to each other and I would like to praise the public assistance given in providing initial first-aid and helping officers with their enquiries so far, along with the quick-thinking and actions taken by police who attended.”

A 56-year-old man from Nuneaton has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

He has been released on police bail until 7th August.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or has CCTV from the area where it occurred, is urged to call police on 101, or email 101@dc.police.uk, quoting reference CR/56097/20.
