Car fire in St Austell is being treated as suspected arson

A car fire in St Austell in the early hours of the morning is being treated as suspected arson.

Police are investigating after the vehicle was found to be well alight on Trenowah Road just before 2am on Monday morning.

Firefighters were called to the scene and used hose reels jets to put the blaze out and cool the surrounding area.

The car was gutted by the flames and officials believe the fire was started on purpose.

"At 1.59am critical control received a call to a fire in the distance. St Austell Community Fire Station were mobilised to investigate.

"On arrival they found a vehicle to be well alight. Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus and using a hosereel attempted to extinguish the fire.

"An assistance message was received "Make Pumps 2" where an addition crew from St Austell was sent.

"Crews quickly extinguished the fire and used a jet to cool the surrounding area and near by property

"Incident was left with Devon and Cornwall Police as this fire was suspected arson."
