All the recycling banks which are set to be removed in Cornwall

Cornwall Council has revealed the full list of 65 recycling banks which are set to be removed by the end of September.

The council is taking away the recycling banks which are mainly located at council owned car parks.

While the council is removing its recycling banks the move does not affect those which are provided by supermarkets in their own car parks.

Recycling banks at all 14 of the household waste and recycling centres owned by the council will also remain in place.

The decision to remove the banks was made as part of the council awarding a new contract for waste and recycling services.

Under the new arrangements kerbside collections of black bag waste and recycling will be fortnightly. A new weekly food waste collection service will also start.

The new arrangements will see households provided with a wheelie bin – or a seagull proof bag if they do not have space to store a wheelie bin – to place their black bag waste in. No additional black bag waste will be collected other than what can fit in the bin or seagull proof bag.

Recycling will continue to be collected from the containers which are currently used. Containers will be provided for food waste.

While the new contract will start later this year the altered kerbside collections will not start until next summer when they will be gradually rolled out across Cornwall.

When the decision was made by the council’s Cabinet to remove the recycling banks it was said that this was done “as residents would be limited to the number of black bags they could leave at the kerbside and because some residents had made complaints about the noise at recycling banks”.

The council gave town and parish councils the option of taking over the management of recycling banks in their area – just two have taken up the offer, Mevagissey and Constantine.

Two banks have already been removed in Trekenning and Carlyon Bay – the council says the rest should be gone by the end of September.
