Man suffers significant head injury in St Austell assault

A man has suffered a significant head injury after a serious assault in St Austell in broad daylight.

The victim, who is local and in his 60s, currently remains in a critical but stable condition at Derriford Hospital.

Officers are currently tracking down his family.

Police say the incident happened at approximately 12.35pm on Truro Road on Tuesday afternoon.

A 27-year-old man from St Austell was arrested shortly after the incident and is currently in police custody.

He has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

“We would like to reassure the community that although shocking, this was an isolated incident and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

“Local officers responded extremely quickly to the situation resulting in many witnesses being spoken to and key evidence being gathered.

“We will be continuing house-to-house enquiries today.

“The incident happened on a busy road so we are asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and who has dashcam footage to get in touch."
