Man charged after serious assault in St Austell

A man has been charged following a serious assault on a 62-year-old man in St Austell.

The incident took place at approximately 12.35pm on Truro Road on Tuesday 21st July.

The victim, who is from St Austell, was assaulted resulting in a significant head injury.

He was taken to Derriford Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition. His next of kin are aware.

Now a 27-year-old local man has been charged with Section 18 Wounding with Intent.

“We would like to reassure the community that although shocking, this was an isolated incident.

“Local officers responded extremely quickly to the situation resulting in many witnesses being spoken to and key evidence being gathered.

“We would like to thank the local community for their assistance and cooperation during this time.”
