Cornish lifeguards sprang into action and provided emergency first aid for several people at the weekend.

On Sunday July 26 crew were involved in two different incidents at Treyarnon Bay near Newquay.

One involved a man who had fallen and suffered suspected broken ribs.

Both were dealt with at a time when the beach was packed full with hundreds of bathers.

On Saturday July 25th  in Padstow at the north end of Watergate Bay RNLI crew came to the aid of a man who had collapsed.

He urgently required oxygen and glucogel as he suffers from Addison’s disease (a rare disorder affecting the adrenal glands).

"The multi-agency incidents that took place over the weekend required great teamwork and thorough communication.

"Our lifeguards must protect themselves and members of the public, therefore wearing full PPE and appropriate social distancing is essential to limit the chances of infection.

"We’d like to remind the public that our lifeguards must always be approached with social distancing in mind and to always stand 2m away from the lifeguard when talking to them so they can keep themselves and the public safe."

RNLI lifeguard supervisor, Leon Bennett
