999 call in Falmouth about fire alarm and 'woman screaming'

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 6:52am 29th July 2020. (Updated at 1:58pm 29th July 2020)

Emergency services rush to Falmouth after a 999 call claiming a fire alarm was going off and a woman could be heard screaming.

Police and firefighters got the shout to the town just before 4am on Wednesday morning.

There were fears that someone could have been trapped inside a property.

Crews from Falmouth and Tolvaddon attended the scene but after contacting the original caller again it appeared that there was no threat to life and no fire.

Firefighters and police officers were then stood down. The team says it was a false alarm with good intent.

"At 3.54am critical control received a call from police, stating that a person had made a 999 call to them reporting a fire alarm sounding in a residential property and a female screaming.

"On this basis the incident was made 'persons reported' and three appliances were mobilised - two from Falmouth and one from Tolvaddon.

"An area manager was the nearest officer to the incident and was therefore mobilised.

"This is part of our normal mobilising procedure, the nearest wholetime officers will always be sent to a life risk incident regardless of rank.

"After contacting the original caller and upon further investigation, we were satisfied that there was no immediate threat to life, and therefore the appliance from Tolvaddon and area manager were stood down.

"The two appliances from Falmouth still proceeded to confirm there was no fire.

"Fire crews met with police on scene and confirmed the incident was a 'false alarm with good intent'."
