Adventure park in Cornwall raises over £20k for the NHS

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 10:00am 1st August 2020.

It has been revealed that a family attraction in Cornwall managed to raise over £20,000 for the NHS during lockdown.

Camel Creek Adventure Park, based near Wadebridge, launched a fundraising event to raise money for local healthcare workers.

It did this through the sale of cut-price day passes to the park, which saw half of the proceeds going to fund protective equipment for local healthcare workers who have been supporting the fight against coronavirus in the South West

Thanks to the enthusiastic uptake of the offer by visitors, a cheque for £20,500 has now been presented to the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

“It’s the least we could do to help support Cornwall’s health workers who have been working tirelessly throughout lockdown to keep us all safe.

"Now the park is open again, it’s wonderful welcome visitors back, many of whom contributed to these fundraising efforts by pre-booking those cut-price tickets.”

Alexis Camelin, General Manager of Camel Creek Adventure Park

The park has now reopened for the summer with a string of new social distancing and safety measures in place.

Before reopening at the start of July, bosses estimated that they will be able to operate at 30% capacity, with the absolute maximum number of customers being 2,500 at one time.

The family attraction says the industry as a whole has lost nearly half of its annual income so far this year, and it would have been a "disaster" if they couldn't reopen.

You can find all the details about the new measures here.
