The Eden Project has confirmed with great sadness that an employee has been found dead at the site.

Officers were called to a non-public area of venue near St Austell on Tuesday afternoon, amid concerns for a person's welfare.

Sadly the man in his forties could not be saved and was found deceased at the scene.

Bosses at the attraction say thoughts and condolences are with their colleagues' family and friends, saying it is heart-breaking.

A specialist officer is supporting those who have been affected.

"We can confirm with great sadness that a member of staff at the Eden Project died in a non-public area of the site on Tuesday (July 28th).  Emergency services attended at our request.

"Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with our colleague’s family and friends and with everyone affected by this heart-breaking event.

"We have put in place specialist support to offer comfort and assistance."
