Police release shocking footage of child being hit by car

Published by Sarah Yeoman at 6:25am 31st July 2020.

Devon and Cornwall Police have release shocking footage of a child being hit by a car, as a stark reminder about the importance of road safety.

The footage, which our police force shared on social media, shows an 11-year-old girl running out into a road in front of a moving car.

Luckily, after being hit she gets up again and runs off seemingly unharmed. Police say she only suffered minor injuries.

The driver was left shaken up but was not found to be at fault.

It has not been revealed where the incident happened in the force area but is understood to have happened earlier in July.

Officers say they have shared the video as a reminder why road safety education is vital and they are urging youngsters to always stop, look and listen.

Around 120 children are involved in collisions with cars in Cornwall and Devon each year.

"We're releasing this shocking footage of a recent road traffic collision involving a child to remind you why road safety education is vital.

"Each year around 120 child pedestrians are involved in collisions on our roads.

"Please always remember to stop, look and listen."
