A Newquay bar is the first in Cornwall and Devon to be shut because of worries over rowdy behaviour.

Police used special powers to shut The Shack last month.

The council is reviewing its license in a few weeks to decide whether it should reopen.

Superintendent Julie Whitmarsh said: “This is a very positive step and shows that the local teams really are dealing effectively with issues connected with licensed premises in the town.

“The closure is highly significant and clearly shows that we take any breaches of licensing conditions very seriously.

“It is particularly important in Newquay which has been the focus for so much negative attention on its night time economy in the past.”
