Cornish sexual health bosses ask us to make a New Year's resolution to be screened.

They want more people to go for check ups at the start of 2012

It is amid fears about booze-fuelled risky behaviour over Christmas.

The Duchy's Medical Director John Tillbury said:

"You are much more likely to take risk, and sometimes unacceptable risk, if you have had a lot to drink. It's well know that if you've had excess alcohol you are more likely to be the victim of sexual assault and you are more likely to acquire sexually transmitted infections"

" For those people who are unprepared you can always get advice from the NHS Direct helpline and you can get out of hours services by ringing your usual GP's number"

Doctor Lisa Haddon says help is at hand:

"Give us a ring first of all. You can speak to a nurse or one of the doctors and then we can organise an appointment, an appropriate appointment close to your home if necessary, and sort you out. The thing is not to bury your head in the sand. Just get on the phone and we'll sort you out. We've got clinics in Truro but also clinics in all the major towns across the county and lots of them are in the evening and very easy to attend"
