Culdrose calls off Air Day.

The naval station says the annual event will not happen this year.

It is because the runway needs resurfacing over the summer and the base will be busy helping with security for the Olympics.

Captain Willie Entwhistle says it will be back next year:

“Clearly it's not a decision we've arrived at lightly. We've considered it very carefully. What we're also doing is working up an alternative programme of engagement around the county for this summer, and we're very aware of the disappointment this will cause"

"It's fully our intention to hold an air day in the summer of 2013 as we have done in the past, and of course this isn't the first time that we have had a break of a year. Twice before I think Culdrose has not had an air day where operational commitments have meant that we're very busy and unable to do so"
