"Lucky to be alive".

A woman describes the moment her car overshot a level crossing and hit a train near Newquay.

Sarah Frampton was driving home at Trencreek Road last night.

The front was smashed on the branch line crossing.

Unbelievably, she walked away unhurt.

Sarah says she had not noticed the warnings and by the time she saw the carriage, it was too late to stop.

No-one on the train was injured and British Transport Police are investigating.

It has sparked urgent safety calls.

Derek Buttivant is a local rail campaigner:

"It has just become far busier than that sort of crossing was designed for. There was supposed to be a road built by-passing the crossing and building a bridge over the railway line. But, as so often happens, there's no sign of the bridge yet and the houses are nearly in full occupation"

"It isn't really for the railway to deal with this. It is for the planning authority to insist that the necessary road and bridge over the railway are built before further development takes place and not wait for another accident to do it"
