Published by the Pirate FM News Team at 2:59pm 27th February 2012.

Criminal gangs target cash machines across Cornwall.

Police found cameras and card readers fitted at Truro, Penzance and Launceston over the weekend.

Now officers are urging us to check before taking out money.

Inspector Dave Meredith who attended the scene of this offence said: "ATM's are there for our convenience and we don't want to put people off using them. However we do advise vigilance when using these machines.

"Before inserting your card please check for hidden cameras, as shown below.  Also check the area housing the card slot for any device that may have been attached to it. These incidents are usually linked to sophisticated criminal gangs, and they seldom occur in isolation."

If anyone notices anything suspicious on or near a cash machine please phone the police on 101 and inform the bank or retail outlet that houses the machine.
