Call Goes Out for Cornish Seal Spotters

We are being asked to help track Cornwall's seals.

The Duchy is home to common seals and the endangered grey seal.

Now academics at Falmouth Marine School want photos of them to see how they travel the coastline.

Researcher Jessica Hirons says the information will be used to help protect them:

"To look at existing laws and work with existing management plans around the coastline and just to make people aware as well of how to interact with seals when you see them in the wild"

"You have to keep a real distance. Try not to make eye contact and stay back. Try not to disturb them into the water. If you're at the top of a cliff stay below so that they can't see your profile, obviously be safe at the top of the cliff and be aware of your surroundings. If you're on a boat, don't approach them"

You can send your photos with details of the location and date to falmouthseals@cornwallsealgroup.co.uk
