Air Ambulance Refuelling Fears
7:02am 17th March 2012
There are fears lives could be put at risk - because of problems refuelling Cornwall's air ambulance.
It has got more difficult on trips to Plymouth since the city's airport shut.
Now bosses are worried what would happen if they are scrambled to two or three emergencies in a row over the summer.
Chief Exec Paula Martin told Pirate FM, "If you were to do a risk assessment on this you would almost certainly, at some point, come across a situation where a patient's life would be put at risk. It's a numbers game.
"The air ambulances play a very significant role in pre-hospital care. I think they now realise the existing helipad at Derriford is inadequate. It has no refuelling facilities and it is on borrowed time."7:02am 17th March 2012
