Being Cornish really is in your DNA.

Scientists reckon people from the Duchy are among the purest Brits in the country.

They have found our genetics are different to people in Devon, and can be traced back ten thousand years.

These people in Camborne reckon it is just the facts of life.

One man said: "I'm seventy-nine years nearly. Cornish, born and bred and proud of it."

This lady agrees: "It does give you an identity, and even if you come from outside, the community's very open.

This man adds: "We've got our Cornish roots still, and we're all fisherman and farmers. A hundred percent proud."

Cornish independence campaigners say it is proof that the Duchy deserves special treatment.

Colin Murley is one of them: "We've been saying we are different and we have our own cultural heritage and we are the original indigenous people of Britain. We deserve to be recognised as such, but we're not."

"It is a milestone in the sense that this is proof that the Cornish are also genetically distinct in their own way, of celtic origin and not of Anglo-Saxon origin as are the English."
