A man has been plucked to safety off Looe, after spending almost an hour in the water.

A helicopter winched the yachtsman to safety after coastguards picked up a signal from a personal beacon around five miles offshore.

Fowey lifeboat crew say he is lucky to be alive.

Coxswain Jonathan Pritchard said: "This was a very lucky gentleman indeed. Personal Locator Beacons are basically worth their weight in gold and definitely saved this man’s life."
