Fears Over Newquay's Crime Crackdown

It is feared police budgets cuts could halt Newquay's plummeting crime.

Yesterday Pirate FM told you trouble in the resort has dropped a quarter in a zero tolerance crackdown.

But officials are worried hundreds of officers are being cut from the force.

Superintendent Julie Whitmarsh insists everyone has to play their part...

"I know I've been called the Mary Whitehouse of policing and various other names. That's not what it's about. What it's about is making Newquay a nice, safe, enjoyable place for people and families to live in and come on holiday.

"What goes on tour stays on tour? It doesn't. It stays in a town and that town is Newquay. It isn't fair on the residents to allow that to continue. Just looking on places like You Tube, you see some of the images there and it's not fair"
