Christmas Fire Safety Warning

Cornish fire crews tell Cornwall... 'Celebrate Safely.'

They are releasing a new set of safety guidelines for Christmas.

It is everything from candles to cookers.

Paul Walker is the deputy chief fire officer:

“Candle use increases, we also find electrical safety with the overloading of sockets and we’re also finding an increase and peak in chimney fires as the winter comes on. Particularly at Christmas we’re asking people to be vigilant and celebrate safely.”

He says booze can make things worse:

“We like people to be aware of the dangers of drinking too much and the damage it can have. It’s not only the physical damage it can have from a health perspective but it’s the damage it can have in terms of dropping your guard and leaving things that might cause problems in the longer term.”
