Floating wind farms off the coast of Cornwall are a step closer.

Hayle's Wave Hub has been chosen as the preferred site for a test turbine.

Developer Energy Techonologies Institute is set to start a year long £4 million feasibility study. If it decides to go ahead, the prototype it could be built within two years.

Claire Gibson, Wave Hub General Manager, is hoping it will boost our economy and create jobs too.

She said: "It means that we can hopefully branch out into developing new technology. There isn't a test project like this in the UK at the moment, so yet again, Cornwall hopefully will be able to claim another UK first on renewable energy.

"Part of our role here is to make sure that we are stimuating economic activity so we will be working as hard as we can with these developers to try and make sure that we can make the most out of this for Cornwall."
